{our succulents: before + after}

cross your fingers these plants last about 10x as long as the hermit crab that one of my suite mates attempted to look after at the beginning of this summer. (SPOILER ALERT: bob lasted 1.5 weeks in her care. i didn't learn about his death until i returned back to school in august. "would i tell you your aunt died over the phone? i had to tell you face to face." i may or may not have embellished her language, but all i know is that she compared my hermit crab to a living relative.)

my suite mate suggested we paint the pots because a) we like being crafty and b) more importantly, there was an ugly black line on the pot that wouldn't go away.  post-painting and drying, we decided that our haphazardly painted pots were quite representative of our styles: while she tends to gravitate towards more pastel, simple tones, i'm attracted to a more tribal, colorful aesthetic.  i like to think this translates well to my personality.... at least the sagittarius in me tells me so.  according to astrology zone, - obviously a legitimate, well-informed site (duh) - the sagittarius woman is "vivacious, funny, self assured, and sophisticated.  she probably had an opportunity to travel as a child, and will need to continue to do so throughout her life.  she's a woman who needs challenge and intellectual stimulation."

the realist in me knows that horoscopes are just self-fulfilling prophecies... but according to my Chinese horoscope, i'm the year of the horse.  ALSO "exciting and extroverted, vivid and animated." and BOTH are represented by horse-like animal figures.  you've got to believe in something....

"be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary."
