awkward/awesome wednesday.

{san juan, tx. spring break 2k12}
awkward:
  • calling my sister "babe" 3 times when i was visiting her in new york because i'd spent a whole day with the boyfriend. it's not that you're not a babe nicole, it's just that...woops.
  • my statistics professor emphasizing the fact that the concept of "correction for shrinkage" of a squared multiple correlation coefficient is "NOT that kind, hehehe!" thanks, sonya, i didn't know.
  • my health psychology professor bringing up s&m and 50 shades of grey during a lecture on health economics. related.
  • filling in a form online and stopping at the security question that prompted me to enter "what is the name of your favorite pet?" as i started typing "d-a-l-a-i...," the name of my new dog, i could hear fudge (my old dog) crying from doggie heaven. fudgey, you're always my #1.
awesome:
  • jennifer lawrence stealing the heart of EVERY HUMAN BEING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. also, an addendum to awkward: seth mcfarlane hosting the oscars.
  • my favorite week of the year in 3 days: ASB in san fran!
  • a few more concerts to wrap up my time in nashville just right: tyrone wells & brendan james april 7th, ben rector april 12th, phillip phillips april 21st...
  • april 15th being almost here, meaning more grad schools will get back to me, meaning i can finally make a decision about next year. yippee!

here's to your own awkward (but mostly awesome) wednesday!

to new york we go.

{queens to midtown to times square}

{the frattiest -and most delicious - brunch location with sister :)}

{SNOW. on the GROUND. in scarsdale}

my last musings over here on da inter-web described my anxiety over not being able to slow things down - but it wasn't something a little jaunt up north couldn't fix.  when i got off at grand central station at 11 am in the morning on friday (with a whole day in front of me, as i didn't have anyone to play with until 5 pm), i kicked myself for a second realizing that i hadn't printed off directions to ANYWHERE.  that, and for the fact that i didn't have an iphone.  i glanced up and realized that, some 30 blocks down the way, i could see union square from where i was standing.  so to union square i went.

there's something about that city - that N-Y-C - that makes you feel so so small and is so so humbling.  as quickly as everyone was walking, as dedicated as they were to answering that email on their blackberry, i was just as quickly trying to slow it down.  as the day went on, i wondered whether or not i could actually live in this city. but that's a story for another time. back to the grind and SAN FRANCISCO on saturday! :)

good for the soul.

look at that depth of field! that aperture! THAT SHUTTER SPEED!

last night, i went to a photography class here in nashville, courtesy of a groupon my brother bought for me for christmas (A+, kev!).  because it took place in a small conference room above a tiny bar, the only photo subjects we had to work with were the participants sitting across from us - two of whom my friend and i presumed were totaaaally hitting it off the entirety of the class.  holllllla at us, dear sir and miss, when you want "this is how we met" pictures for your wedding slideshow. done and done.

it was such a wonderful way to refuel my photo-taking fire, and it came at the perfect time.  even though i've been accepted into grad school - which is essentially the culmination of my life the past 4 years - life lately has still felt hurried and rushed.  i've promised myself that i'm going to focus more on relishing the smaller parts of life that make me happy: capturing small moments via my lens, hot yoga meditating to wake me up in the morning, and cherishing those once-in-a-lifetime friends who forgo judgment and scrutiny when listening to your own daily struggles.

so expect to see more photo walking, more photo talking, and overall more examples of my photo fails and triumphs.  that being said, look forward to my photo walk #1 - in NYC this friday! so ecstatic for a weekend with my sister, my boy, and my favorite city :)

"i began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life.  if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead.  embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. lukeward is no good. hot is no good either.  white hot and passionate is the only thing to be."
